If I had to pick one ‘star’ creature from the Fantastic Beasts series, it would have to be the Niffler. Whether flying on wine corks, or marauding in Jewellery stores, they are unashamedly fearless and determined to live their BEaST life… no matter the cost!

It may therefore come as little surprise to learn that the Niffler was the first ever ‘fantastic beastie’ I crocheted, days after I saw the first film. This was also the start of a five year journey to ‘pawfecting’ my pattern, trialling new techniques and trying out different until I found a ‘keeper’. Finally, in Summer 2020, I solemnly swore that I had!

This pattern is distinct for being almost entirely seamless. The use of short rows means that the pouch, arms and legs are all ‘built into’ the main body, rather than being sewn on at the end. So if, like me, sewing is one of your pet peeves, this pattern is your answer!

So without further adieu, here it is…

This DIGITAL Pattern is INTERMEDIATE LEVEL. Skills needed include:

  • Working in the round, using the “magic ring” method.
  • Working in rows (for the pouch)
  • Working in an oval, using a foundation chain.
  • Working in short rounds and joining yarn to a piece.
  • Basic Sewing with a whip stitch to join your pieces together.
  • Crocheting with fluffy/faux fur yarn (optional but does give best results!)
  • Colour changing (if making a two-tone niffler).

The PDF includes text and photos, along with a yarn guide. The pattern has been extensively tested by a group of fellow WitchCrafters, so I have every faith that it is "maker-worthy". Nonetheless, you are welcome to contact me with any questions you may have, and I will

This pattern requires approximately 40m of fluffy yarn and 10m of beige yarn.
