Crochet Fwooper
In a KNUTshell
- Baby Fwoopers are approximately 12cm tall. Adults are 16cm tall.
- Their bodies are crocheted in either Sirdar "alpine" yarn or Sheepjes 'Furry Tales' yarn.
- Their beak and claws are crocheted in DK grey yarn.
- Their eyes have been hand-painted with cruelty-free nail polish.
- Each Fwooper comes with a beespoke "beastie book badge" and adoption card, which will certify that they are a FREE BEASTIE.
- As with all my beasties they are made-to-order, so please allow 4-6 weeks from the point of adoption before they are ready to fly home to you!
- While all my beasties are made with love and care, they are not CE-tested, so are not intended as toys for young children
The Beastie Backstory
If ever a beastie was given a siriusly rough deal by mankind and represents how there are "no strange creatures, only blinkered people", it's the fwooper. With the belief that fwooper song can drive the listener mad, Wizards are instructed to cast a silencing charm upon their feathered companion... which sounds far more like control than companionship!
To quote Hermione, it's positivity barbaric, and here at Bumble & Be we solemnly swear to say NO to the silencing charm. All fwoopers are free to sing their song for all to hear - and who knows, perhaps their words can tell us something that humans simply didn't want to hear? The reality that ALL creatures are FANTASTC beasts, who are worthy of rights and respect.
The Design Story
The crochet Fwooper came to be at the start of 2020, based on my Owl Pattern from a couple of months earlier. I decided that I wanted to do more of an interpretation of the creature in the films, rather than an exact replica, with particular emphasis on their incredible eye-markings... and thus the fwooper eyebrow was born!
I like to think that this has become somewhat of a 'signature symbol' of my crochet menagerie, as it's incredible how much this one detail can bring so sassy character - as if they are saying "if you so much as try to silence me... I am fwooper fierce!"
For many months, Lady English Rose lived on her own in the fwooper nest... however, I am pleased to inform you all that the "Flurry" (my term for a group of Fwoopers) has expanded to 3! The limited edition Fwooper that I made for Valentine's 2020 has joined the Crew as "Princess Peony".
In addition, after such a magical response to a custom Sweetpea/White fwooper I made earlier this year, they have completed the Golden Trio as "Sir Swwetpea". As you can see, I have kept the arisocratic theme in line with Lady Rose, as with those Sassy eyebrows it's clear that they're destined for high places!
Your Story
As with all other Spew Crew beasties, each Fwooper is handmade to my own pattern, so is 100% exclusive to Bumble and Be. As they are made-to-order, it means that no two will be quite the same, but I like to think that is part of their magic - just like an Ollivander wand!
Every single Fwooper adopted will also come with their own exclusive adoption card and "beastie book badge", which I make from the secondhand pages of Harry Potter books. Before your beastie flies off to you, I will ask if you have a name in mind and - if so - put this onto the adoption card. On that note, this name will often form the basis for the book badge too; for example, past customers have called Fwoopers Filius, Flora and Firenze, so I have chosen passages with these names included!
